Spaghetti Chair: a name, a guarantee
his week our appointment with design is dedicated to an ironic and fun chair whose name is inspired by a beloved local dish; a chair that from birth has enjoyed a popularity that shows no sign of diminishing...
Designed in 1979 by Giandomenico Belotti, the Spaghetti Chair was the first product launched by Alias, a Bergamo-based company of which the designer was also co-founder.
This chair is a symbol of Italian excellence in the world and as such has earned a place in the permanent collection of MOMA.
The structure is light and simple, made of steel. You can choose between the painted and the chromed version.
The back and the seat are made in the characteristic pvc rod weaving.
The pvc wire, thanks to its peculiar shape of "spaghetti" inspired the famous name.
A name that certainly contributed to making the chair an icon.
he clean design, the measured proportions and the comfort of the material are its strong points.
Conceived as a simple outdoor chair aimed in particular at the hotel market, Spaghetti has been overwhelmed by an unexpected success.
The first models produced by Alias Design had the structure and the pvc rods of the same color, subsequently the collection was expanded with new colors and models; there really is something for everyone ... In addition, for her 30th birthday the designer Jasper Morrison gave her a worthy heir: the Tagliatelle Chair!
erfect synthesis between technology and form, the Spaghetti Chair is a creative variation of the rationalist lesson.
It is witty, functional and elegant; perfect for creating a modern and sophisticated environment with a touch of irony.
